We designed a single-family house near Ljubljana for a private client. Instead of following the traditional Slovenian gabled house strictly, we opened the floor plan to more light and stronger connections to the surroundings. The main concept appears in the roof opening, which brings fresh air into the building and naturally ventilates the interior. In addition, this opening brightens the living rooms, hallways and staircases.

Inside the home, sliding walls create flexibility. Residents can easily move them to adjust circulation or redefine rooms as needed. As a result, a study can appear within the living room, or the upper floor can open into one continuous space. The southwest façade is fully glazed, allowing sunlight to fill the children’s room, kitchen and dining area. Another thoughtful element of the layout is that each child’s room includes its own bathroom, which increases comfort and privacy.

Nature plays an important role in the overall concept, both inside and around the house. Greenery softens the garage area, while an opening in the roof provides natural watering. Furthermore, plants separate the house from the road and surround its most private outdoor area—a covered terrace positioned at the edge of the plot. This creates a peaceful and sheltered space that remains connected to nature throughout the day.
